The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is investigating a commercial break-and-enter at a business near Granville and Helmcken streets early Friday morning, Sept. 4.
According to the news release by VPD, officers responded to a break-and-enter in progress at about 6:45 a.m. on Sept. 4 after a witness reported seeing a man smash the front window of the business with a skateboard before stealing merchandise.

Officers arrived within minutes, but the suspect had already left the area and was not located. The stolen merchandise was of relatively low financial value, while damage to the storefront is estimated at more than $1,000.
Investigators have obtained CCTV footage and are working to identify the suspect, according to the news release.

“The VPD shares the concerns of local business owners, workers, and residents regarding break-and-enters and street disorder in the downtown core,” said Const. Darren Wong. “We remain committed to working alongside these businesses to ensure that Granville remains a safe, vibrant, and welcoming destination for all.”
