While most residents celebrated Thanksgiving with family, the North Vancouver RCMP was hard at work ensuring road safety.
During the holiday weekend, three drivers were caught speeding more than 40 km/h over the posted limit, putting themselves and others at serious risk. In a social media post, North Vancouver RCMP said each offender received a $368 fine for excessive speeding. Their vehicles were also impounded for seven days.
In a brief post, the North Vancouver RCMP highlighted the dangers of excessive speeding, reminding the public that these actions have severe consequences. Beyond the fines, the drivers face additional costs for towing and impoundment fees, totalling upwards of $1,500.
The Thanksgiving crackdown is part of the RCMP’s ongoing efforts to promote road safety, particularly during holiday periods when traffic volumes increase.
“Speeding may seem like a thrill, but the consequences are real and immediate,” said North Van RCMP.
Why not a speeding fine based on income?
That’s ridiculous. Then the lower income people would speed all the time knowing they would not be punished as severly
The fine would be the same proportion of the annual income. It would be much fairer than the present system. If you are very well off, you can speed as much as you like as the fine proportional to your salary is small.
