Conservative candidate Stephen Curran has responded to the Liberal Party of Canada’s announcement of its candidate for the upcoming federal by-election in North Vancouver–Capilano.
According to the news release, the Liberal Party appointed its candidate without holding a local nomination process, and the candidate has no ties to North Vancouver–Capilano.
“Braeden Caley is an Ottawa resident who has never lived on the North Shore,” Curran said. “He doesn’t pay rent or a mortgage here. He doesn’t have to sit in North Shore traffic. He doesn’t have to worry about his property value as our property rights continue to be eroded.”
Curran said Caley’s roles in Ottawa have promoted policies that led to record-high grocery prices and failing local infrastructure, the news release noted.
He said the by-election is an opportunity for the community to send the federal government a message about the cost of keeping a home in the area, neglected roads and infrastructure, and families priced out of the community they grew up in.
“At the doors, community members have made it clear that our message should be conveyed by someone who has actually lived it,” Curran said.
According to the news release, Curran has lived on the North Shore for more than a decade, where he and his wife pay their mortgage, drive their children to school, and where he built his career and business.
Common sense says we should judge candidates by their ideas and results, not where they used to live. Stephen Curran himself moved here from Edmonton. If choosing to make the North Shore your home is good enough for him, it should be good enough for anyone else too.
The Liberals tried a fly in candidate before. Warren Kinsella arrived to a pre arranged selection just as the new guy has. Kinsella lost, left and was never seen here again. People do not want a staffer dropped in and then told to vote for him. We want a voice for us, not for Ottawa.
